Could There Be a Link between Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and the Alignment of the Cervical Spine?

Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Always Tired

A pilot study revealed reduction in brain perfusion in patients with  chronic fatigue syndrome when compared to normal patients  Brain perfusion  is a measure to evaluate the blood flow to the brain hence assessing oxygen and metabolite delivery.  2    This pressure should be maintained whether blood pressure goes up or down.    Head trauma or injury are the main causes of inability to  regulate the pressure in the brain,  which has been linked to chronic fatigue, depression and epilepsy.

The study revealed decreased brain profusion at the brainstem was marked and consistent compared to 24 normal subjects.   Miguel Flores, DC Specialist, has studied the upper cervical area for many years and has found that by removing pressure placed at the brainstem area he is able to successfully help patients suffering with chronic fatigue.  With the specialized approach known as NUCCA, he  is able to precisely and accurately  study the alignment of the cervical spine .  If a misalignment is detected  then  pressure is being placed on the brainstem which could be contributing to the symptoms present.  Miguel Flores, DC removes  the pressure off the brainstem and typically in a short amount of time patients who previously suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome begin to see improvements in:

  • Fatigue that before could not be helped with bed rest and may have been worse by physical or mental activity

  • Weakness

  • Muscle pain

  • Impaired memory

  • Mental concentration

  • Insomnia

  • Participation in daily activities 3
