Chronic Pain in Children Can Lead to Adult Fibromyalgia

Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Pain, Always Tired, ChildrenHave you been advised that the chronic pain your child is experiencing will go away as they age? There is strong evidence that chronic pain experienced during childhood will continue into adulthood. The study conducted by the University of Michigan hypothesizes that  pain experienced by adults has greater severity and meets clinical criteria for a  diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia in children and teenagers consists of tender points throughout the body.  In some cases , the soreness can start in one area of the body and eventually affect others.  Children have described the pain in different ways including burning, aching, tightness, stiffness, or tenderness. Other symptoms include:

  • Fatigue

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Headaches

  • Dizziness

  • Restless leg while sleeping

  • Difficulty remembering

While it may be comforting to finally have a diagnosis for the widespread pain your child is experiencing, Miguel Flores, DC Specialist, believes it is more important to have a resolution to the pain. Miguel Flores, DC is one of 250 upper cervical specialists worldwide who have dedicated their career to helping people who suffer from chronic pain.  Miguel has found that trauma causing injury to the neck leads to symptoms that can start immediately or after several years.

This upper cervical technique focuses on reducing irritation to the nerves of the spinal cord and brain stem that trigger pain, neurological dysfunction, and fatigue. For children, the most common trauma occurs during childbirth frequently seen in C-sections, use of forceps, and aggressive clinician assisted vaginal births. Other examples include: falling when learning to walk, riding a bike, sports, and so forth.  Miguel Flores, DC Specialist evaluates each patient individually to determine if this specialized care will be successful. Every child deserves to live a pain-free life!
