Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue: The Facts

In some cases, if a person suffers from fibromyalgia, they may also see evidence of chronic fatigue. This may prove to be true if the  person has had extreme fatigue for over four months. What does this feel like? Well, it is not the kind of fatigue a person gets from a full day of physical exertion. With chronic fatigue, no amount of rest or relaxation will ease up the fatigue. It is constant and persistent. Nothing helps. It impairs a person's ability to concentrate, think clearly, and function at a productive level.

Let’s consider some facts about fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue:

  • The older a person gets, the more likely it is they may experience chronic fatigue.
  • Up to seven percent of the population in the USA have chronic fatigue.
  • Women are ten times more likely to get it than men.
  • Fibromyalgia is connected to abnormal nervous system function that leads to a distorted perception of pain.
  • Fibromyalgia patients have brain and spinal cord abnormalities and chemical disturbances in the  brain.
  • A decrease of cerebrospinal fluid to the thalamus has been noted in fibromyalgia patients.
  • Wind-up, a condition in which the brain feels pain when there is none present, is felt by people with fibromyalgia.

How Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care Can Help

Success has been seen in treating both patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. By focusing our attention on the upper cervical neck, the area that houses the brainstem and spinal cord, we can often find misalignments that may be the root cause of symptoms.

If a misalignment is putting pressure on the brainstem, it may be hindering the flow of blood and spinal fluid to the brain.  A problem in this area can cause all kinds of health problems, including those associated with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Once we are able to detect and then correct a problem here, the body is able to heal and begin functioning at a  normal level.
