Vertigo Caring for the Most Common form in Manila

Vertigo Relief, Dizziness Relief, Dizzy, Menieres Relief, Vertigo, Dizziness, Menieres, Meniere's diseaseThe most common form of vertigo is benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. Also called BPPV or positional vertigo, this is a condition that is more commonly experienced by women and the risk of having vertigo increases as a person gets older, particularly those who are 50 and above. One increased risk factor for vertigo is having experienced a head injury.

The good news about positional vertigo is that it is not often a life-threatening health condition. In the worst case scenario, however, vertigo can be dangerous. Imagine experiencing it while rock climbing, driving a motor vehicle, or working on scaffolding. You don’t want the world spinning around you during those activities.

Vertigo—Caused in the Neck?

Vertigo is often the result of a miscommunication between the brain and the inner ear. The eighth cranial nerve (vestibulocochlear) is the nerve through which this transmission is made. An upper cervical misalignment can interrupt these proper signals.

The atlas and axis (C1 and C2 vertebrae), when misaligned, can affect various nervous system functions involving everything from the brainstem to the vestibulocochlear nerve. This can negatively impact balance and potentially result in vertigo.

This is not surprising when we recalled that head injuries and vertigo seem to go hand in hand. The upper neck can easily become misaligned during head trauma. This makes it important to see an upper cervical chiropractor if you are dealing with positional vertigo and have experienced an MTBI either recently or in the past.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic

At N8 Upper Cervical Chiropractic, we use the NUCCA technique to locate and provide specific corrections for atlas and axis misalignments. Following an adjustment, the central nervous system should be in a better position to send the correct signals about body position. This can reduce or even eliminate vertigo.
