Is It Really a Migraine?

Migraine, Migraines, Headache, Headaches, Head Pain, Migraine Headaches, Migraine Relief, Headache Relief, Tension Headache, Tension Headaches, Migraine Headaches, Migraine Headaches ReliefA migraine and tension headaches have some symptoms in common, but there are some big differences. In part, it comes down to the amount of pain that is experienced. Here are some facts that will help a person be able to tell them apart. Migraine headaches include:

•    Sensitivity to light and sound

•    Nausea and vomiting

•    A very high pain level

•    An aura or other symptoms may happen before a headache occurs

Another interesting thing to be aware of is that a migraine is actually a neurological disorder not really a headache, but they often cause pain in the head area. Therefore, a headache is only one symptom of a migraine. And yes, migraines can happen without head pain.

How to Cope with Migraine Pain

Whether a person suffers from migraine pain or tension headaches, he wants to find a way to stop the pain as soon as possible. A medical doctor will often prescribe some type of medication or even recommend over-the-counter painkillers. While this may help for a short time, there is always the chance that another headache will occur if the root cause is not properly addressed.

Upper cervical chiropractors have seen much success in helping patients get positive results with their migraine headaches by adjusting the top two bones of the upper neck. These bones, the atlas (C1) and axis (C2), are susceptible to misalignment. If either of them is out of place by just ¼ of a millimeter, the entire body can be affected. This is due to the fact that a misalignment here places pressure on the brainstem, hindering communication from the body and brain. Blood and cerebral spinal fluid flow and nerve function are also compromised. This sets up the right conditions for migraines and other headache types to ensue.

Once I examine a patient’s neck, we work together to develop a treatment plan. When the misalignment is corrected, patients often report feeling much better. Migraines and headaches may ease up and sometimes go away completely.
