Menieres Disease Linked to Head and Neck Trauma

Vertigo Relief, Dizziness Relief, Dizzy, Menieres Relief, Vertigo, Dizziness, Menieres , Menieres DiseaseMeniere’s disease is a rare condition that results in tinnitus, vertigo, a feeling of fullness in the ear, and temporary hearing loss. For many years, researchers believed that this condition was the result of hydrops, an excess of fluid in the middle ear. As a result, many doctors still prescribe antihistamines or fluid-reducing medications to patients. However, recent and extensive research has shown a more likely underlying cause.

Getting to the Bottom of Meniere’s Disease

The problem with hydrops being the cause of Meniere’s is that many patients don’t suffer from both conditions simultaneously. This led an upper cervical chiropractor to search for another cause. He conducted a study involving 300 patients over the course of 6 years. All 300 patients had something in common besides just Meniere’s. Each one had suffered from whiplash trauma, some caused by car accidents and others by head injuries. The results of the study make a strong case for the link between neck trauma and Meniere’s. In particular, vertigo intensity decreased by an average of over 90%, and 97% of the participants saw a dramatic decrease in symptoms.

How did this link go unnoticed for 150 years? It seems that an upper cervical misalignment causes a lesion to form gradually on the Eustachian tubes. This is what results in Meniere’s symptoms. Since this lesion can take up to 15 years to form, the accident is usually not considered as a factor by the average doctor.
