What Exactly Are Muscle Knots?

Have you ever heard someone say they have a knot in their back? Have you ever felt as if your muscles had a hard knot in them? What is this, and what can be done about it?

Muscle knots can be accompanied by dull or sharp pain. What happens is that muscle fibers tighten up and will not release back to normal. This is caused by overusing a muscle or using it improperly. The muscle may feel like it has deve loped a hard bump or knot. These knots can be as large as a person's fist or very small, but generally they are not pleasant to experience.

How They Happen, and How to Avoid Them

Now that we know what a knot is, we need to find out why they happen. Many times they are due to an injury, such as a car accident that causes whiplash. A strenuous workout at the gym, sitting or lying in an uncomfortable position for long periods, or other ways of stressing your muscles can be reasons for knots to develop. What c an you do?

Well, you generally cannot avoid being rear-ended, but there are some other things you can do to help your muscles function better. Always using good posture and always lifting with your leg muscles, not your back muscles, are two ways to keep  your muscles healthy and knot free.

Investing in a good massage is a great way to find the knots and work through them. Massage therapists are trained to find pressure points that others may miss. You also can use a foam roller up to 12 times, three times  a day on the knot until it goes away.

Why Does It Happen?

Many times our posture is to blame. By seeing an upper cervical chiropractor, such as Miguel Flores, DC Specialist and Gabriel Flores, DC Specialist of Manila, Philippines, one can be helped to correct any misalignments of the spine that may be causing posture to be out of balance. If you have a misalignment in your upper neck, your whole back can be out of line and cause those knots to develop. Why not schedule an appointment today to get your posture back and begin to loosen the knots in your muscles. You will be glad you did.
